Can Someone Fill Me In?
I know this is not the perfect place to rant and write about this…but I think it’s worth a shot asking ppl what they think-mostly because I’m not so sure if this is “the norm” in Ireland/Europe.
I finished the last of my exams on June 1st. It is now June 28th, and NO ONE knows when our results are coming out. My previous experiences in other colleges (in Japan and in the US, we were told IN THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR when our exam results were coming out; all exam schedules were set down to the very day and hour.)
I come here, and we dont know what time our exams are until two or three weeks before, and we have to wait and wait and wait in dread/shivering excitement after the exams for our results to arrive.
And when they do, you have usually forgotten about them already and don’t even remember the exam itself, so you really dont know what question was your downfall/claim to fame.
I want to ask: is this normal in Ireland/Europe/the UK? Have people had similar experiences in their Universities/Colleges?!
Can’t answer but got the similar information. Planning to do Masters, and talked to a colleague who is doing a similar degree in Trinity; found out to my surprise that there’s no real choice given for selecting courses, sounds more like a high-school system to me, but again probably it’s just the way it is.
would like to find out more…
at UCD, the results would be out no later than July 9.. got an email last week announcing that.. Thou’ doesn’t imply to all of europe :)) .. again .. my experience in Germany.. it was quite common to get results within a few days or also on same day if its oral exam (exception being if there for 400-500 students in each class, common for undergrads).. but there was no rule or as such for any deadline for results announcement.. and def. a framework for exams schedule.. immediately after lectures end..
And to iblees comment, not sure of Trinity.. but at UCD.. you can pretty much choose different lecture as long as you complete the mandatory courses.. probably its same in trinty.. atleast for masters.. it should be same and should have options for courses..
Hahahaha! Yes, yes and yes! My advice to you – and oh how I wish someone had given this to me in my first of 6 years of medicine in Dublin. Just go with the flow, don’t stress or worry about dates. It all eventually gets done, results do come out, you get an amazingly respected degree…and it’s way more fun than American school. Medicine was like 6 years of college with VERY hard studying about 2-3 months before exams. In retrospect, I wish I had relaxed more, gone to the pub more and traveled every single second I could have…and worried about exams and results and timelines less.
