Sunday Brunches

My two best friends and I take time out every Sunday afternoon to indulge in gastronomical fantasies before meandering around Dublin to catch up on life and chill out.

These “gastronomical fantasies” come true the minute we walk into a nice restaurant for a good Sunday brunch. Using the internet, word of mouth, and a trusty “BEST OF DUBLIN: RESTAURANTS” book that my friends has, we sample eggs florentine, specials of the day, and laugh about the week’s events.

The past 3 Sunday brunches, in my opinion, have been great. It’s interesting how different places can have the same dish (eggs benedict, for example), YET, make it taste subtly different.

So far we have gone to:

BISTRO in Castle Market, Dublin 2

THE MERMAID CAFE on Dame Street, Dublin 2

Odessa in Dame Court, Dublin 2

We may look like three Sex & The City wannabe girls, engrossed in talk and laughter, but most of the time we are only dreaming and talking about food and the dish we are being served :P

Out of the three; the best “value for money” lunch was Odessa. The Vegetarian Brunch, for about 9.70 was SO HUGE (in comparison to 10E or 12E elsewhere), I could only finish about half.

A good “let’s have a chat” place was BISTRO, where they also have an amazing Omelette there. Beautiful.

Mermaid Cafe, by far had THE BEST PECAN PIE IN THE WHOLE OF DUBLIN CITY. I love Pecan Pie. I love Pecans. Everytime we are in a cafe, I am inclined to Pecan-pie-ify myself. And everytime, I found it too sweet, too buttery…but Mermaid cafe’s pecan pie was delish. Pure heaven. And their food, I was amazing as well.

All in all, the three places were GREAT places to go for brunch. If i was to rate them in order, I would probably say :

Odessa (call before-hand though, its so hard to get a table!!!!)
The Mermaid Cafe
Bistro

Call in again in another 3 weeks, where I will have THREE MORE brunch places lined up :)

An bhfuil ocras ort?

That’s mad, I have had the same idea and am chronicalling my breakfasts/brunches on a domain I just set up at http://www.rashersandeggs.com

Send me on any of your reviews you’d like to see posted at the address on the home page.

Mmm Omelette…I have been looking for a good breakfast omelette in this city. The only place which I know of that serves omelettes is the Elephant and Castle in Temple bar. Does anyone know other places that serve them?

Well Odessa has the spanish omelette, there is a pub in temple bar..I forgot the name of it; it’s the one next to the SPAR (or londis) in temple bar…..opposite the haagen daazs.

Both those places have great omelettes/frittatas.

Mermaid Cafe has omelette as a special sometimes.

There are a lot of places, you just gotta hit them all UP!! :)
